I attended Eat, Write, Retreat! last week. It was an amazing food blogger conference, even if they didn’t serve donuts a single time. While I hope that they will add gluten-free donuts to the menu next year, it would be really hard to top the donuts I got there this year:
This is a custom, hand-painted tile from Renee at Kudos Kitchen. The first evening of Eat, Write, Retreat!, it was announced that five of us had won custom tiles, painted by Renee. They were all amazing, beautiful replications of blog logos. I am so excited to have this on display in my kitchen.
If you have been following any of my 52 blogs for awhile, you’ve recently noticed a design change. I’ve not gotten super fancy or anything, but my blog design now includes photos of me and sweets from my kitchen and one donut shop. The logo that Renee so skillfully painted on the tile has been retired, but I do think of it often. I occasionally wear a t-shirt with that logo to run (the back says, “I run for donuts!”) and recently came across a few straggling business cards from the days when there was only a 52 Donuts blog, no 52 Sweets, no 52 Foods on a Stick, just one simple spot on the web where I rambled about donuts. My husband created the logo for me at a time when neither of us knew anything about blog design. We are both still blog-challenged, but have learned a bit since the days of this cute little logo with 3 donuts. I couldn’t have imaginged that I would be chasing down 52 of anything else ever again after that year of donut adventures. Those donuts were the start of my blog journey and it made me teary to hold this handpainted tile that reminds me where it started, hence the smeary eye mess I’m sporting in this otherwise lovely photo by Olga Berman of Mango & Tomato.
At a time when I am trying to determine where food blogging is taking me, this plaque reminds me where I started 3 years ago, back when I could eat gluten and indulged in lots of donuts. And it’s simply adorable. Thank you, Renee, for sharing your talent!
