Gluten-Free Travel & Dining Guide

Gluten-Free Travel and Dining Guide | In Johnna's Kitchen

Do you find it challenging to plan vacations or meals out because you have to be gluten-free?  Here, let me help!  Welcome to my Gluten-Free Travel and Dining Guide.

I have incurable wanderlust and enjoy traveling in the U.S. and abroad.  I also really enjoy dining out at locally-owned, original restaurants. I’ve compiled a state-by-state (and a few countries outside of the U.S., as well) listing of places I have personally dined and traveled to. No anonymous recommendation from an app, no recommendations without accompanying photos. Just real deal reports on what I ate, photos and the scoop on how you can safely eat while traveling away from home or eating in your own town.

Below is a state-by-state listing of my posts related to dining out and travel.  You’ll find great recommendations here, whether you are gluten-free, vegetarian or simply enjoy excellent food and experiences. While geared toward gluten-free eaters, the restaurants I visit are enjoyed by all. Very few chain restaurants are included here, as I find it more fun to explore what is unique in each city I visit. Additionally, I find chef-driven, locally owned restaurants are more likely to understand my needs and prepare a meal that is safe for me to eat.

My gluten-free travel and dining resource guide is not intended as restaurant and lodging reviews, rather a summary of my experiences dining out and traveling.*  Menu prices, items and ingredients, lodging and property highlights featured were current at the time of writing.  Please read restaurant menus carefully and ask for assistance in ordering if you have dietary restrictions. It’s a good idea to call ahead and let the restaurant know of your food needs.

*Writing bad reviews doesn’t feel good. Only in extreme cases (a total of two in five years) where gluten has been apparent in my food or the handling of my food restrictions was of great concern do I share anything less than a recommendation.  I’d rather share a good recommendation with you.  I hope that’s what you are looking for anyway, recommendations on where to dine and fun places to visits in your travels. Thanks for understanding.
