My friends Larry and Laurie go to many movie screenings. Sometimes I tag along if I can snag a pass.
This week we saw Jeff Who Lives At Home. I enjoyed it, it was a feel-good movie. I’m not going to delve into movie reviews here, but I would recommend this one.
Here’s the thing about me and movies: I have trouble sitting still for two hours. If I’m going to spend two hours sitting and watching something, I feel like it should be a documentary or at least something I can learn from like Food TV. I might consider watching a movie at home, so I could multi-task and do paperwork or a craft while the movie plays.
Learning to go to a movie and enjoy it has been harder than meditation for me. I’m so thankful for friends who share movie passes with me, because I am learning to sit still and watch a movie for entertainment alone. I used to use the excuse that I wouldn’t pay for a movie, tickets are pricey. With that hurdle removed, I’ve found a new favorite thing to do! I can actually sit through an entire movie AND enjoy it without thinking about all of the other things I should be doing.
There have been other great side benefits of movie-going, too. I’ve met some of Larry and Laurie’s fun movie-going friends. Two of them, Tom and Sharon, took this photo for us after the movie. The last time I saw them at a movie I gave them a jar of Palisades peach salsa I had canned. This week they brought my empty canning jar back with a sweet hand-written thank you. Who does that anymore? Those of you who can certainly appreciate what I am saying, as not all of our jars find their
way back home. Plus a handwritten thank you note…well, that combination guarantees a great friendship and more shared canned goodies!
Day 3 was a good one; good friends and a good movie on a weeknight.
