It was possible to do a study in dipped bananas during the 52 Foods on a Stick journey. Earlier there were chocolate dipped, cherry dipped and now butterscotch dipped. I would have expected to find the butterscotch dipped banana at the same place as the cherry, but there were from two different vendors.
The vendor who sold me the butterscotch dipped banana had a great interest in Food on a Stick. He asked lots of questions and wanted to know what I would like to try but couldn’t find at the Kentucky State Fair. The one thing I really wanted was a chocolate dipped dill pickle on a stick. I had one a few years ago at the Tulsa State Fair (not to be confused with the Oklahoma State Fair, there are two). It was so good that I wanted another, seriously. Something about the sour of the pickle with the sweet and crunchy chocolate shell tasted really good to me on a hot afternoon. Alas, the butterscotch banana fella didn’t think there would be much demand for the chocolate pickle.
The butterscotch dipped banana had a crunchy shell, the result of being dipped and allowed to harden three times. On the last go round, it was gently rolled in chopped nuts. There were other options, too, such as sprinkles and cookie crumbs. I went with the basic chopped nut option.
I had to carry this all the way back across the fairgrounds before eating it. It was still very frozen and challenging to eat, but pretty tasty. I would eat this one again….in fact, I might do that soon!
