I sure do enjoy a nice cocktail. My favorite cocktails are served in mason jars, garnished with a sprig of herbs from the backyard, shared with friends while chatting on the deck on a muggy early Summer night.
If you follow me at 52 Sweets, you’ve surely gathered Bourbon is one of my favorite spirits. But I also enjoy rum. I’ve added a twist to a Bourbon-y Southern favorite, Shoo Fly punch. I’ve used rum instead of Bourbon and incorporated a couple of my favorite Midwestern spirits. I think you’ll enjoy it, too!
Shoo-Fly Punch with a Twist
Makes 2 servings
3 T. Sailor Jerry rum
2 T. amber rum (I like Island Time from Spirits of St. Louis)
2 T. The Big O Ginger liqueur
1 T. lemon juice, fresh squeezed
1/4 t. bitters
Crushed ice (I like buying a bag of Sonic ice for this one)
1 bottle Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew or ginger beer of your choice
orange slices
fresh mint
Fill two half pint mason jars half way with ice. Mix together both rums, ginger liqueur, lemon juice and bitters. Pour 1/2 into each of the jars. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with a slice of orange and a sprig of mint.

What a lovely cocktail idea! As soon as the weather warms a bit more, you can be sure we’ll be making one of these luscious concoctions. Thanks for your creative use of The Big O.
