Happy National Corn Dog Day!

It is not by coincidence that the 52 Foods on a Stick blog went live today.  Today, March 20th, 2010 is National CornDog Day.  What a perfect way to celebrate foods on a stick AND a fun new 52 adventure.

The corndog establishment I have enjoyed the most is the Cozy Dog Drive In in Springfield, Illinois. But don’t call it a corndog–it’s a Cozy Dog, a hot dog on a stick dipped in special batter.  It was invented by Buzz Waldmire.  His idea was ripped off and renamed the corndog.  The Cozy Dog is located on Route 66 and is packed full of memorabilia.  It is easy to spend a couple of hours there just checking everything out.

I’m wearing my Hot Dog on a Stick shirt today and trying to make my own corn dogs at home.  I’ve never attempted to make corn dogs before, especially not a vegetarian gluten-free version.  A back-up plan seems like a necessity.

Where’s your favorite corn dog spot?  Ever made your own?
