Food on a Stick #25, Fair Squares

Fair Squares the official treat of the Iowa State Fair.  They are enormous Rice Krispie Treats on a Stick and a bargain at only $2.

At the 2010 Iowa State Fair, these were available in regular and peanut butter flavors.  Neither John nor I eat marshmallows (most marshmallows contain gelatin which isn’t vegetarian), so we did not get to eat these but did see lots of folks enjoying them.  I wanted to share them with you because they were being sold as a fundraiser for the Blue Ribbon Foundation, which works to preserve and improve the historic Iowa State Fairgrounds.

I think the Iowa State Fair belongs on everyone’s bucket list.  To me, it is THE State Fair.  There is a reason over a million visitors go there every year, a reason why it was the setting for State Fair, the novel, musical and movie.  It encapsulates all that is Middle-America in a way I have seen nowhere else.  Go visit the Iowa State Fair and have a Fair Square while you are there!
