Today is the first day of an entire month of daily blog posts from me.
Yes, one post a day. Every single day. Once daily. For a whole month. Thirty days.
Oh, good grief. What have I gotten myself into?!?
So how is that a Soften Saturday topic, you ask? Well, let me explain…
I’ll start with a little background: NaBloPoMo, National Blog Posting Month happens every month, but November is the largest gathering of bloggers. Starting today, thousands of bloggers like me are committing to posting once a day for the whole month.
Why am I doing this? Two reasons: first, I think it will help me get caught up on all of the blog posts I have waiting in my “drafts” folder to share with you. Second, I think it will stretch me creatively, allow me to share more about me. A friend who is a fellow blogger (and I’ve appointed her as a mentor) mentioned to me today that I share many things on my personal Facebook page that represent who I really am…and those things don’t shine through as much on my blog. That alone gave me a lot to think about, made me think about that stretching I mentioned.
I may also have a third reason I’m doing this: letting go of perfectionism. I often hesitate to press “publish” on a blog post because I don’t think the photos are good enough. Or I didn’t take enough photos at a dinner out or I don’t think anyone really wants to know how I prepare the chicken coop for winter or or or…See where I’m going with this? This is going to encourage me to be softer to myself.
Wanna join me? You could write a blog post everyday this month, too. Or you could share a photo on your Facebook page each day. Or commit to making an actual phone call to a friend daily. Pick something that you are reluctant to do, do it for 30 days and see if you are softer to yourself. That’s my plan anyway. I hope you’ll tag along!

Hi Johnna,
I subscribe to your emails, and enjoy reading what you’re up to, and of course, the information on your site.
I’m very new to blogging, and have also just joined the post a day.
I look forward to reading more.

Thanks! I’ll pop over and visit your blog, too. Post-a-day seems like a big challenge to me, but I’m giving it a go!

I don’t just go around handing out awards willynilly. But if I were to hand out awards for creative comments, you would get one, Robert. You’re the first to quote Rudyard Kipling on my blog.
