It’s time to remind the FDA we need the Gluten Free Labeling Rule to be enforced!

Again…

Last month I hosted a Gluten Free Postcard party. So many of you virtually joined together to write postcards and drop them in the mail to the FDA, asking why they are not enforcing the Gluten Free Labeling Rule.

This month let’s get specific and ask about products that have been reported to the FDA. Each product on this collection of postcards is labeled gluten-free, yet has a gluten containing ingredient listed on the label or visibly contains a gluten containing grain. Each one has been spotted by someone like YOU, a member of the gluten-free community, reported to Gluten Free Watchdog and then reported to the FDA via the CAERS system. And yet the FDA has done NOTHING. No recalls for gluten. This is dangerous to anyone who needs to eat a gluten-free diet.

How this works:

Print out postcards, four to a sheet, and cut before mailing. Each postcard takes a $0.35 stamp to mail. I’ll include a list of contacts at the FDA below to send postcards to. Write a note on the backside, you’ll find examples of what to include here. An explanation of why gluten-free labeling matters to you is a great place to start. Again, check HERE for ideas on what to include.

I’ve also included individual files of each postcard if there is a specific one that calls out to you.

If you are hosting Gluten-Free Postcard Parties, you are welcome to print these to use. And please share on social media with #glutenfreemail so we can see what you’ve got going on. It’s going to take our entire community to remind the FDA how important gluten-free labeling is!

Oh my goodness! I have a big bag of Earthly Choice Lentil Trio and I’ve already used some. I don’t have celiac but I get very sick from eating just crumbs of gluten. I might have eaten some, gotten sick and just never could figure out why. Thank you for this. I will contact the FDA.

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve gotten sick from this. Two things I’ll add: What you’ve said about not having celiac and getting very sick from eating just crumbs of gluten is important. I often hear people say, “Oh, I don’t have celiac, just non-celiac gluten sensitivity.” Many with NCGS are every bit as reactive to gluten as those with celiac, some even more so. Second, thanks for contacting the FDA. We are making progress with contacting them to urge them to recall products. Our voices are making a difference!
