Cocktails! Shoo-Fly Punch with a Twist

May 15, 2012 By Johnna 3 Comments

I sure do enjoy a nice cocktail.  My favorite cocktails are served in mason jars, garnished with a sprig of herbs from the backyard, shared with friends while chatting on the deck on a muggy early Summer night. If you follow me at 52 Sweets, you’ve surely gathered Bourbon is one of my favorite spirits….

Days 31-40, 40 Days of 40

May 11, 2012 By Johnna Leave a Comment

Whew!  It took me slightly more than 40 days to get in 40 of my Favorite Things.  Maybe I wanted to stretch it out as long as I could.  I had more fun that I could have imagined celebrating all forty of these things.  Here are the final ten. #31.  Take a Tour.   I grew…

Peach Bourbon Push-Up Pops

May 9, 2012 By Johnna 2 Comments

Ever since I received a review copy of Courtney Dial Whitmore’s Push Up Cake Pops book, I’ve been a little obsessed with the push up pop. I can’t stop thinking about things to put inside these little contraptions that remind me of childhood frozen treats. The cookbook is so easy to use for us gluten-free…

Days 22-30, 40 Days of 40

April 16, 2012 By Johnna Leave a Comment

WOW!  I’m not even sure where to begin on all of the Favorite Things I’ve indulged in these past few days. I will admit a few of these occurred all on the same day, my actual birthday, but I’m counting them separately.  I’m not sure how it was possible so many of my favorite things…

Malasadas in Hawaii, the Big Island

April 3, 2012 By Johnna 13 Comments

I recently vacationed on Hawaii’s Big Island and visited a few donut shops.  I know, it’s surprising I would visit donut shops while out of town. 😉 I should clarify that I didn’t visit any typical donut shops, just those offering Malasadas.  Malasadas are Portugese donuts, a ball of fried yeast dough rolled in sugar. …

Day 15-21, 40 Days of 40

April 3, 2012 By Johnna 1 Comment

Wow!  Time is zooming right past me.  Some days I am struggling to allow time for one of my 40 Favorite Things and then when I do, I don’t have time to blog about it. Here are a few of the things I’ve slid into my crazy busy schedule the last few days: #15:  Went…

Day 14, 40 Days of 40: A Trip to the Dog Bakery

March 27, 2012 By Johnna Leave a Comment

These trips to the Dog Bakery are such a guilty pleasure.  I actually enjoy them more than the dogs! I like spoiling them with treats that are so pretty I’d like to eat them.  Our recent addition, Dolce, has been with us for seven months now and had never been to the dog bakery.  I…

Day 13, 40 Days of 40: Share a Gluten-Free Sweet

March 27, 2012 By Johnna Leave a Comment

I had what I thought was a really great plan for one of my 40 Favorite Things.  I was going to share a gluten-free sweet at a gathering at a friend’s house. My plan was to not mention that I had brought gluten-free goodness.  It makes me happy when people eat my gluten-free treats and…

Day 12, 40 Days of 40: Fun with Car Friends

March 27, 2012 By Johnna Leave a Comment

On my list of 40 Favorite Things was a drive with my car friends.  I modified a little bit and went on a drive with my hubby to a gathering of our car friends.  So it was a two-car group drive to a gathering with lots of fun little British/German cars and friends.   Right at…

Day 11, 40 Days of 40: Watch a Food Documentary

March 24, 2012 By Johnna 1 Comment

I’ve watched so many food documentaries that they sometimes all run together.  I mean, really, how many movies has Joel Salatin been in?  I must have seen them all…or at least in my head he has been in several of them.  Same with many others who want us to eat better, raise food better, take…
