Hearty Mushroom and Veggie Soup, Twelve Months of Healthy Eating

November 25, 2013 By Johnna 4 Comments

Is it cold where you live? Here, in the Kansas City area, it’s so cold that all I want to eat is hearty soups, stews and chili. This soup is terrific ladled into a generous soup bowl and even better ladled over gluten-free egg noodles.  I used Jovial’s egg noodles, cooked according to the instructions…

Pesto Stuffed Potatoes, Twelve Months of Healthy Eating

November 21, 2013 By Johnna 5 Comments

I bet you thought I had given up on my calendar project.  Nope, I’m about to conquer that silly twelve month goal. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s the scoop:  last December I got a calendar at Fausto’s in Key West.  It featured a recipe each month that was healthy but didn’t…

I Ate Here: Taco Republic, Kansas City, KS

November 19, 2013 By Johnna 2 Comments

Often when I write about restaurants, I make mention of a gluten-free menu, a separate menu made available by the restaurant listing only their gluten-free options.  Occasionally, I’ll mention an integrated menu where gluten-free dishes are indicated with an icon of some sort on the menu. I Ate Here: Local Flavor Cafe, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

November 6, 2013 By Johnna 2 Comments

One of my favorite parts of the country for viewing the beautiful autumn leaves is Northwest Arkansas.  I also enjoy driving the narrow, twisting roads, shopping in the cute boutiques and antique shops.  Oh, and eating.  I love eating there! Because it’s not always rainbows and unicorns over here in plant-based, gluten-free land, I’m going…

I Ate Here: Palm Court Italian Grill, St. Pete Beach, Florida

November 3, 2013 By Johnna 2 Comments

I have a short list of truly incredible, memorable meals I’ve enjoyed out.  Some of the meals were at bucket list restaurants, some were at tiny neighborhood cafes, some were in gorgeous travel locales.  Three things always come together to create those experiences: good company, great service and amazing food.  My dinner at Palm Court…
